Rewire how you see, assess, and support postural control.

The Targeted Learning Track is a 6-month course from Optimi that  gives you the lens, language, and logic to move beyond talking about “weak core” to addressing exactly which postural segment, which support, and which next step will unlock real progress.

Join the founders of SATCo and Targeted Training and integrate the evidence base with clinical application for outcomes that literally change the core.

SATCo shows you where control stops, where to support, and what that means for walking, bracing, and even spinal deformity risk."

Dr. Andrew Roberts, Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon

The Core Principle

I used to think postural control was about “core strength.”

Now I know: it’s about segmental control in Neutral Vertical Posture.

SATCo and Targeted Training don’t just give you new tools — they give you a new lens. One that shifts you from asking “How strong is this child’s trunk?” to “Which segments are actually under control, in NVP, against gravity?”

And with that lens, everything changes.

You stop chasing global tone and start creating conditions for precise, repeatable control. You stop tossing kids into unsupported sitting or standing and hoping for the best — and instead, provide the exact support they need, just below the uncontrolled segment, in the right posture, with the right load and task.

Because real learning happens when you manage degrees of freedom, not remove them.

This isn’t about guesses or gut feels anymore. It’s about using a defensible, repeatable framework — one that lets you assess, align, intervene, and explain every step with confidence.

In the Foundation Module (which you can access free), we walk through this in detail - what NVP really looks like, how to spot segmental control, and how to start using it in your everyday assessments.

What if post-grad learning was actually füN

The truth is… there are a dozen ways to “learn more” about postural control and neuromotor intervention.

You've probably

01

Dug into academic articles only to find they’re packed with theory, but light on clinical nuance and real-world application.

02

Signed up for clinical courses and found either rehashing the academic literature but light on application, OR full of techniques but lacking the biomechanical and neurodevelopmental principles that actually help you problem-solve with complex kids.

03

Scrolled Insta, TikTok, or YouTube and gotten the catchy sound bites, but none of the depth.

04

Bought the books, but between your caseload and life, when’s the last time you had hours to digest a textbook… and then figure out how to apply it?

05

Tried self-paced online courses only to find they’re missing accountability, diverse perspectives, and a chance to check back in when real-life clinical questions pop up.

We’ve been there!
That’s why this course was designed differently.
Get the depth and the clarity, the theory and the hands-on thinking, alongside two of the best minds in the field.

Child Reading Book

If you'd love to

01

Talk about postural control with precision and confidence — and finally feel grounded when explaining your choices to teams, parents, and funders?

02

casestudies.png

Know exactly what the next best step is for every child — and stop spinning your wheels with “maybe this will help” strategies?

03

Note - Summit.png

Connect the dots between biomechanics and clinical reasoning — so your choices around orthotics, hand function, postural support, and gait aren’t just intuitive…they’re defendable?

04

casestudy.png

Do less for your kids - and expect more from them - by dialing in the right support, the right task, and the right intensity?

All without abandoning your current clinical approach or adding yet another vague “course you’ll never finish” to your list?

Then you're in the right place!

Our
Story

Mindy Silva, Physiotherapist

A long, long time ago...

It’s not often in our world of pediatric physical therapy that we see research with definitively positive outcomes - and even rarer to see clinical wisdom spark a global wave of academic innovation.

I first heard about Penny Butler’s work while working in South Africa. A parent of a child I was seeing asked what I thought of her approach.

I was hooked!

It wasn’t just evidence-based, it was clinically sound, biomechanically precise, and explained in a way that made perfect sense.

But Penny was in the UK, I was in South Africa, and for a long time I remained an admirer from afar.

Fast forward nearly a decade: I was sitting in a course (now in New Zealand) with the incredible Beverly (Billi) Cusick from the U.S. and she started talking about Targeted Training.

Don't you love it when dots connect across continents?

I discovered that Targeted Training was resonating with respected clinical thought leaders around the globe - and there was a new kid on the block called the SATCo to give us the language and the tools to quantify what we’ve long known:

Trunk control is at the core of everything (excuse the pun) from balance to speech to gait to hand function.

Targeted Training (TT) gave us the method to intervene with precision - and the SATCo gave us the means to analyze and measure meaningful change.

Around this time - technology was changing the game. I was having a blast connecting online with clinicians across the world in The Wired Collective. Figuring out how I could make it super easy for all of us to sharpen our clinical skills and connect with the latest researchers and the most innovative thinkers. I reached out to Penny, who introduced me to Richard. They generously shared their wisdom, their research and their years of clinical insights.

Richard Major is the perfect counterpart to Penny. Where Penny is the clinician, bringing rich, intuitive analysis and the lens of real-world therapy, Richard is the Bioengineer who gets it! As Richard likes to say, "The working therapist cannot engage in complex calculations in the middle of a busy clinic."  He prefers to focus on the general ideas behind the theory enabling visualisation of the problem and practical solutions. His explanations are deeply rooted in biomechanical principles and logical clarity - no fluff, no vague theory. Just honest, grounded insight that changes how you see things and what you do.

Penny and Richard’s work, which had always emphasized segmental control and biomechanical precision, has paved the way for new thinking from groundbreaking work in gait and orthotics, to the integration of technology and Artificial Intelligence learning in assessing complex postural movements. This included Elaine Owen's development of tuning fixed AFO's which has been widely acknowledged.

Together, Penny & Richard are helping us move our clinical analysis from guesswork to grounded reasoning…

Penny and Richard started Optimi to bring the SATCo, TT approach and biomechanical principles to therapists who want clarity, tools, and confidence to move from simply talking vaguely about a 'weak trunk' to offering analysis and interventions that are specific, targeted and effective

The Targeted Learning Track is where we bring their framework into your day-to-day practice, step by step

What Other Therapists Are Saying

Tanya Sakanaka, Research Associate
"SATCo isolates posture into static, active, and reactive components — and shows you exactly which segment needs help. It’s grounded in gravity, not guesswork. That clarity is a game-changer."
Derek Curtis, Physio + PhD, Denmark
The best part about Targeted Training? It’s evidence-based, developmentally sound, and totally adaptable. Once you learn the structure, it clicks. Especially for kids with complex profiles (GMFCS IV–V), this work brings clarity and direction.

This course is for you if...

You’re confident in your skills — but you know there’s a deeper layer of understanding out there, and you’re tired of feeling like you're just missing it.

You want to grow… but between your caseload and your life, you don’t have time to read all the papers, follow all the experts, and figure it out alone.

You’re committed to clinical excellence — but when complex kids walk through the door, you sometimes feel like you’re guessing (and it’s exhausting).

You know the impact better mentorship and clearer frameworks could have — not just on your confidence, but on your kids’ progress.

And if you’re honest? There’s a quiet guilt. The sense that you should know what to do next… but no one ever taught you how to see it this way.

This course is not for you if...

You prefer an easy to follow recipe instead of clinical reasoning tools

You need a quick fix and you’re not interested in a paced learning model that takes time to integrate

You’re not in a place where biomechanics and neurodevelopmental concepts are going to serve you

You prefer sound bites or fun snippets and struggle with the delivery of content that need a wee bit of nerdy commitment to get through

You are not a therapist who has the basics of anatomy, biomechanics and neurodevelopment under your belt.

** If you are a parent who would like to learn more, please reach out and ask us about our parent module.

You're invited!

If you're reading this, chances are you already care…  a lot.

You’ve got solid instincts.
You’ve put in the hours.
You’ve stayed up late thinking about that one kid.

But sometimes?

The missing piece isn’t more effort; it’s a sharper lens.

This isn’t just a course.

  • It’s a space to grow.

  • A framework to see clearly.

  • A chance to finally make sense of what you feel in your gut, and turn it into confident, defensible, effective action.

If you’re tired of winging it with your toughest cases…

If you’re ready to feel fired up again, not just stretched thin…

If you believe that precision, not more pressure, is what these kids need…

Then you’re exactly who this was built for.

We start soon.
We’re keeping the group small.
