AMA with Sharon Sutherland & Jenn McKee

If we don't know what they're feeling, we have no right prescribing postural supports in the absence of confidence.

Why join this AMA?

This isn’t a lecture, and there are no slides.

It’s 90 minutes of real conversation with Sharon Sutherland, answering the questions therapists actually have about solving complex posture and movement difficulties in seating, standing and lying in ways that support function in everyday practice.

You’ll want to join if you are…

  • managing dystonia, tone fluctuations, and collapsing postures - and wondering how to support postural control without defaulting to rigid positioning.

  • You’ve got all the supports in place but it's limiting your movement or participation goals.

  • You’ve tried a dozen strategies - but you have those kid who keeps sliding forward or dropping their head no matter what you do.

  • You’re fielding competing recommendations (orthotics, orthopedics, equipment, school teams) and trying to balance them all with what the child needs for best outcomes.

  • You're balancing equipment limitations, caregiver capacity, and ethical concerns in real time - or working in settings with limited resources.

  • You’re constantly making decisions in the middle of clinical grey zones—and wishing you had more clarity to back those decisions up.

These aren’t checklist problems. They’re layered, interdependent, and often messy. A one-size-fits-all answer doesn't work and you want to sharpen your clinical reasoning to better meet the needs of all the kids on your caseload

Note: This workshop is designed to deepen your understanding and clinical reasoning—not to resolve individual case presentations.

Deepen your clinical analysis

  • Recognize compensation patterns that explain why a child sits one way, stands another, and responds unpredictably to familiar strategies.

  • Clarify your priorities when multiple priorities are in play - tone, equipment, environment, participation, and caregiver capacity.

  • Think more critically about positioning, alignment, and movement support - especially in children who don’t fit neatly into lying, seating and standing solutions.

  • Refine your reasoning by exploring patterns and principles - not protocols as your guide

This isn’t about walking away with a treatment plan. It’s about walking away with the insight that makes every plan more effective.

But wait... There's MORE!

To make this workshop even more impactful (and actionable), you’ll also get:

Why Learn from Sharon?

Sharon Sutherland is known for her clarity, depth, and generosity in teaching. Her approach is rooted in real cases, real questions, and a commitment to a human first approach - where posture and mobility aren’t treated as isolated variables, but as interconnected parts of a child’s ability to participate meaningfully in their world.

What sets her apart isn’t just her clinical expertise - it’s how she teach therapists to think:

  • Not in protocols, but in patterns.
  • Not in checklists, but in context.
  • Not in fixes, but in function.

Sharon has specialized in the field of 24-hour postural care, pressure care and related function/mobility since the late 80’s. Graduating from The University of Dublin, Trinity College as a Physiotherapist, Sharon has experience with 24-hour postural care, pressure care and related participation/function/mobility service delivery models in North America, Latin America, New Zealand, Australia and in the EU.
